Zai Jiang BianBy the River
A story on a traditional Chinese family living on the Yangtze River in the eight days between Ancestor’s Day and Mid-Autumn Festival. During this time of family gathering, each family member’s personal conflicts and troubles are revealed: The father struggles to deal with cancer with financial limitations, causing him to put his daughter’s wedding before his own treatment, while the mother single-handedly takes care of the house and land, worrying about future of her three children. The eldest daughter has to decide what is best for her and her young child, her husband cheating on her. The only son has been married for many years without having children, and faces the immense cultural pressure to bear grandchildren for his parents. The youngest daughter, a college graduate, is pressured to find a husband, but is unable to forget about her first love, who is abroad in France.
