Philemon és BaucisPhilemon and Baucis
In 2003, at the request of the Berlin Opera, Greek composer and conductor Konstantia Gourzi, completed the preserved fragments of Hayn’s opera Philémon and Baucis. The first version was an opera for marionettes first staged in 1773 in honor of Empress Maria-Theresa of Austria. The work presents the archetypal story of old couples unable to live without one another. This new production of Philémon and Baucis, conducted by the composer herself and staged by Balázs Kovalik, the famous artistic director of the Hungarian State Opera, was presented at the Budapest Spring Festival in March 2009. Katalin Nagy filmed one of the most popular shows of the festival.
