Algérie, images d'un combatAlgeria, Images of a Fight
As with all modern conflicts, the Algerian War set its stakes in terms of its representation in images. In the face of the many films shot by the French army, and in response to their discourse, a handful of filmmakers including René Vautier joined the Algerian combatants to keep a trace of their struggle. Camera in hand, they filmed images of crucial beauty, most of which were banned in France and some of which are still missing or destroyed. A film about the necessity of cinematic commitment.
