Yandé Codou Sène, diva séeréerYandé Codou Sène, Séeréer Diva
Yandé Codou Sène is considered one of Senegal’s finest voices. During his presidential campaign, Léopold Sedar Senghor, the poet-president, heard her at Gossas and asked her to sing before his speeches, accompanied by her choir and drums. She became part of the president’s entourage: she alone had the right to interrupt his speeches to spontaneously break into one of her legendary songs of praise. She also took part in the major ceremonies of Séeréer cultural life, being deeply associated with her ethnic group.
