Yakuza EigaYakuzas Eiga
A staggering journey into the Japanese cinematic underworld, from World War II to the present day. Emblematic figures of new Japanese film, such as Miike or Takashi have in recent times extended the boundaries of the genre. Over four decades, actors and directors have met real yakuzas, which allowed them, along with gang leaders, to become very good actors. It was time that Toei Studios, the country's largest, become the yakuza movie factory. The style of this documentary mixes “cinema-vérité” and an historic approach to a popular, yet controversial genre: the yakuza film.
