Voler comme l'oiseau ou la folle aventure d'Étienne OehmichenFrom Insect Wings to Helicopter Blades
On May 4, 1924, Etienne Oehmichen staged the demonstration of a new four-rotor helicopter, entirely based on his observations of animal flight. The flight was an undeniable success: he performed the first kilometer in a closed circuit. It was a world first. Today, animal flight still guides research in improving the helicopter. But for Etienne Oehmichen as for the scientists of our age, certain laws of aerodynamics seem inviolable. The only exception being for the dragonfly.
