Un homme d'honneur
On May 1, 1993, ex-Prime Minister Pierre Bérégovoy, who had just suffered a definitive legislative defeat, shoots himself in the head. The financial scandals, political defeats and the harassments of a judge got the better of his vulnerable personality. In a car going from Nevers to Paris, his widow Gilberte looks back on their last years filled as they were with political dreams, the fascination for their new life, disappointment, excitement, as well of betrayal and abandonment. His sincerity and his total lack of cynicism are the subject of this film, which is not a naïve defense of the man, but the intimate portrait of a crucial figure of French political life in the 1980s. The pleasures and perks were not the main goal of his personal ambitions; there were something that mattered more than his life: honor.
