The film tells Sidney Poitier' story, the first African American star in Hollywood who embodied the hopes of his generation and who managed, through his perseverance and talent, to bring black characters into American cinema, from 1950 to 1980. This film combines the story of this outsider's exceptional destiny with an entire community’s fight for Civil Rights, represented by the different movements led by Martin Luther King, The Black Panthers and Malcom X.
