Prestes MaiaPrestes Maia
Sao Paulo, 2007. Brazil is on its way to become an economic superpower. Right in the centre of the 20 million Metropolis, stands a stronghold of the lower class: Prestes Maia, the biggest squatted building in Latin America. A huge and proud bastion of the underclass: 468 families on 22 floors, 1,379 inhabitants with 1,379 stories. And all of them have only one goal: to stay. But the government has different plans. Prestes Maia – Freedom in Concrete is a film about a country on its way to become a global player and about its poorest, who try their best to find their place in the new society and to stay there.
