Daddy Is a Martyr is a unique glimpse into the lives of members of Hezbollah’s Shiite Muslim community. The film draws an intimate portrait of Ibrahim Mouazzi's family, a Hezbollah fighter who died as a martyr during the 2006 Lebanon war. Over the course of a year we follow Dalal, Ibrahim’s wife. While Dalal is proud of the way her husband died, his loss has left a painful void in her life, and in the lives of her five children. Hezbollah takes the family under its wing, offering spiritual counselling and social support, which create a sense of indebtedness among poor Shiite families. As for the children, they are socialized by Hezbollah to love and respect the concept of Jihad and perhaps become future fighters.
