In the wake of the breakup of the Austrian Empire in 1918, Italy annexed the regions of Friuli, Venezia Giulia and Istria. At the same time, the fascist regime was created. Slovenes and Croatians were the victims of attacks, restrictive measures and forced Italianization. When the Second World War broke out, Yugoslavia was dismantled, its capital, Ljubljana, occupied by Italian troops, and all resistance crushed. This film looks back at the massacres and violence committed by Mussolini’s fascist Italy and deals with the dark years that followed, from Tito to the erasing of the border between Italy and Slovenia in 2007.
