Marked for Life

By the time civil war in El Salvador ended, the US government demanded the repatriation of thousands of the young Salvadorians immigrants who joined the Latino gangs on the streets of L.A. These “marginals” simply reproduced the gang hierarchy in their homeland. There are today currently 150,000 to 300,000 “mareros” terrorizing El Salvador and all over Central America (Guatemala, Honduras, etc.) with the governments seemingly unable to control this deadly phenomenon. Meanwhile the gangs, or Maras fight each other. Many are just kids fighting a bloody war with no real meaning and no apparent goal. One international film crew spent time on the streets of Los Angeles, San Salvador and Guatemala with those who are in contact with the gangs, as well as gang members themselves.
