Mama cocaMama Coca
The journey of Charles Coocoo, an Atikamekw elder and spiritual leader, from his home in the Native community of Wemotaci, Quebec, to the coca farming community in Peru in November 2006. Coocoo, concerned with the prevalent abuse of cocaine in his community in recent years, seeks to educate the peoples of these farming communities on the evils of the coca leaf. There, guided by Wanka spiritual leader and Nelson Palomino, a leading cocalero, he meets people who embrace him as a brother and show him the crucial differences between the natural coca leaf and cocaine and the deep, age-old bond between the leaf and the native Andeans.
