The turn of the 20th century to the 1960s were dark decades for both Quebec and the movies. If Quebecois culture was anemic, motion pictures were seen as a corrupting influence; Quebec had one of the most rigid censorship systems in the world. This film relates the six-decade struggle between the Catholic Church and the Quebec state and film lovers and champions of free artistic expression. It also gives the floor to victims and persons who found themselves in the limelight of controversy.
