Léif LëtzebuergerCharlotte, a Royal at War
A wife and mother of six children, Charlotte of Luxembourg was also a wartime propagandist for the Allies. As a Royal "propagandist in pearls", Charlotte was a potent symbol of the resistance against Nazi occupation, as she broadcast on the BBC from London and NBC in the United States, throughout World War II. Her radio messages became a vital "lifeline of hope" for the people of Luxembourg, as they suffered under the Nazis' terror regime. Luxembourgers hung onto the words of their beloved Grand Duchess "Léif Lëtzebuerger..." (Dear Luxembourgers…) as she urged them to stand by their national motto: “We want to remain what we are.” The film reveals a powerful truth: ordinary people will endure hardship, imprisonment, even death, if they have someone to believe in, to keep their hopes alive.
