Le Peintre paysan
Moor Guyed is a Senegalese artist of international standing. At 85, he is currently the dean of Dakar’s glass painters. A witness to his times, he looks back on his life as well as the history of Senegal, from the colonization to independence and the advent of democratic alternance. The major political figures such as Senghor, De Gaulle and Abdoulaye Wade, the current president, are thus portrayed by this illiterate and visionary painter. He casts an enlightened and somewhat ironic eye on his contemporaries and remains bitter about the loss of Senegal’s traditional values. He warns humanity against excessive individualism, the lack of solidarity that could wreak chaos. Senegal comes to life through his committed gaze. Despite his success, he continues to work his land.
