La SaponificatriceThe Soap-Maker
A feature documentary about Leonarda Cianciulli - nicknamed the "Soap maker of Correggio" - who was considered the first Italian serial killer of the 20th century. Between 1939 and 1941, she murdered three women whom she claimed to have dismembered and turned into soaps, cakes and cookies. This story has often been given a partial and fanciful telling. Beginning with the minutes of her trial in 1946, this film scrupulously relates these tragic events, drawing on rare images and most of all the accounts of elderly people who were more or less involved.
