L'École nomadeSchool on the Move
In Far-Eastern Siberia, an experimental nomads’ school was set up by Evenk people so that children can remain with their family and not forget their language and culture. They no longer have to choose between a traditional lifestyle and access to certain modern life. Computers, tables and chairs are strapped to the reindeer’s sleds. Children follow the standard Russian academic courses even as they preserve the ancestral culture of the Evenks. At the same time as the return of the children, which upsets and enriches the social fabric of nomad families, adults leave the despairing precariousness of the cities to return to the forest, where the spirits are and with whom they commune in the manner of their illustrious cousin, Dersu Uzala.
