Huxley on Huxley
Italian born Laura Huxley, a teenage violin virtuoso, made her American debut by playing at Carnegie Hall. She left the concert stage to become a psychotherapist and author. In 1956, Laura married Aldous Huxley, a famous writer. In the conservative 1950's, the Huxley home in the Hollywood Hills was the center of the artistic and intellectual avant-garde of Los Angeles. The Huxleys' passionate search to find higher levels of consciousness included their controversial experimentation with psychedelic drugs such as LSD. Their revolutionary and provocative work in the 50's and 60's had a major influence on U.S. and world contemporary cultural history.
