They seem to have nothing in common: a nationalist settler, an orthodox Rabbi, a mother of four children, an Israeli Palestinian and an atheistic businessman. But all of them were born on the 14th of May 1948, the date the state of Israel was created. From that day onwards they all took very different paths, to the West bank, to the orthodox quarters of Jerusalem, to the faceless suburbs of Tel Aviv. Born on the 14th of May is a documentary about 60 years of Israel told by the very first of its children, who mirror the state: diverse, scarred, sometimes broken and yet, as Rabbi Israel Taub puts it, "miraculously still alive."
