From Somewhere to Nowhere
In 2006, 2007 and 2008, photographer Andreas Seibert and Swiss filmmaker Villi Hermann made three trips to China, where high-population centers of enormous size are springing up with dizzying speed. In Southern China, one hundred million people have already set out from rural, underdeveloped provinces to earn their living there. This film documents their everyday lives and their journey back home. With its combination of photos and video images, filmmaker and photographer capture the scale of this modern migration of peoples, the so-called “mingong”, illegal migrant workers.
