Frères de sang
The Senegalese tirailleurs (Skirmishers) were formed 150 years ago by a decree signed by Napoleon III. They served in all of France’s wars until independence. Bernard Simon went deep into Africa to seek out the few remaining survivors of the campaigns of the last world war. In their accounts and those of their former white chiefs, illustrated by period archive footage, this film shows us the crucial role played by black Africa in European destiny of the last century. Through the moving memories of these men whose age we forget, we learn of the unsuspected heroic saga and the blood debt that binds France to the African continent.
