East Berlin, 1988. After getting into trouble, Marco, a teenaged punk rocker, only avoids jail thanks to his father, Jurgen, a high-ranking Stasi officer. However, he must accept his father's stipulation that he joins the army. Surprisingly, Marco discovers he has both leadership potential and a new respect for the socialist government. Marco's girlfriend Anja, and Marco's mother Hanna become activists in the battle for a freer East Germany. However, their views run counter to Marco's new loyalty to the German Democratic Republic, while Jurgen is torn between his personal belief that greater freedom is necessary and the security of his place within the socialist government. On November 9 1989, the Wall comes down, changing their lives forever...
