Claude Goretta
In the 60s, this Genevan director belonged to a group of anti-establishment filmmakers - alongside Alain Tanner and Michel Souter - in a country considered the most conformist in Europe; Switzerland. Documentary maker and director, Claude Goretta helped launch the careers of Gérard Depardieu in Pas si méchant que ça in 1975, Isabelle Huppert in La Dentellière in 1977 and Nathalie Baye in La Provinciale in 1980. In 1997, he made Le Dernier Été, a biography of Georges Mandel from a novel by Nicolas Sarkozy. He recently made a TV biopic about Jean-Paul Sartre, played by Denis Podalydès. Filmed at his home in Geneva, this portrait uses archive footage, photos and trailers for his films.
