Here are three tramps, two of them blind and the other crippled. Carmelo, "the lame", has no scruples about making a spectacle of himself or hitting on someone weaker than himself; Paolo, "the poet", the pious, upright blind man, lives in his memories and claims he can make out things because he imagines them; Enzuccio, "the lover," could see as a child and preserves the memory of the woman he loved.
