Charcot, une épopée scientifiqueCharcot, an Epic Science
Jean-Baptiste Charcot (1867-1936) is the undisputed father of French polar research and the founder of modern oceanography. An experienced seaman who had sailed the most difficult waters, he was also an explorer who headed scientific missions to Polar Regions and in innumerable oceans and seas. Today, the time has come to consider him one of the most determined, daring and gifted scientists of the early 20th century. Isabelle Autissier invites us to rediscover the "shadow of Charcot and his ships". Other scientists explain the work of Charcot that, with amazing intuition, inaugurated the research now being conducted on oceans and polar regions like so many thoughtful studies of a sick planet.
