Antonio Gramsci
The film tells the life of Antonio Gramsci, the famous philosopher and communist theorist, who was elected secretary of the Italian communist party in 1921 and arrested for conspiracy by the fascist regime in 1926. He would spend the rest of his life in prison where he wrote more than 30 volumes of Prison notebooks, made up of reflections on history, politics and education. Historian and philologist Chiara Daniele, who studied his writings, looks back at Gramsci’s political and ideological preoccupations before and during his detention as well as at his complex relations with the party.
