Yuanming yuan
Yuan Ming Yuan, "The Garden of Perfect Brightness," was built in the 17th and 18th centuries by Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. Covering 350 hectares, and including 200 palaces, pagodas, and other edifices, Yuan Ming Yuan, the most famous imperial garden in Chinese history, was the summer residence of the imperial family and a key political and cultural site. Within its grounds, the Xiyanglu western palace was built by the famous Italian painter and architect, Giuseppe Castiglione. In 1860, the arrival of the Anglo-French Expeditionary Forces led to the plundering of Yuan Ming Yuan. One last paradox: European palaces destroyed by Europeans. A box office hit in 2006, the film has won many prizes in China.
