In 1825, the British ushered in the era of the “steam locomotive” in China. 182 years later, the steam locomotive has vanished in Great Britain. But in the southern province of Sichuan, one can still hear the whistle blowing. This documentary is about a nine-year-old girl named Xiao Yan, who bears the brunt of household chores while her parents are away working in the distant city. Unable to afford hospitalization, the girl’s sick, despairing grandmother cannot pay a doctor. In order to buy drugs for her grandmother, Xiao Yan must deal with the garbage each day, which has been selected and collected by the locomotive engineer.
