Villa-Lobos, l'âme de Rio
Composer Heitor Villa-Lobos (1887-1959) is the emblematic figure of another kind of music, known as "musica erudita". Because of his mixed Portuguese and Indian roots; his adventure-filled life; his attachment to France – and to Paris in particular; his commitment to bringing the music alive, transmitting it to the Brazilian people and imposing it on the international scene; because of his genius and his creative powers, he left an indelible mark on twentieth-century classical music.
From Paris to Rio and São Paulo, orchestra conductors, musicologists, composers, singers and musicians tell us the story of this remarkable man’s life.
