Shanghai, en attendant le paradisShanghai, Waiting for Paradise
Four years in the life of the Wang family in Shanghai’s lower depths. Three generations living under the same roof, tenants in a crumbling house on Fang Bang Street – one of the oldest thoroughfares in the city. A world within a world. A miraculously spared enclave of piled-up centuries in the center of futuristic Shanghai, in a hurry to catch up on lost time, without too many qualms. The Wang house, like their street, is condemned to disappear at any moment, swept away by the bulldozers of modernity. When, exactly? They don’t know. They are waiting. This is a film about life in-between two worlds, a world on borrowed time. A consideration of modernity, globalization, on what one stands to lose or gain.
