Max is from a well-to-do family in Lugano and seems to have recovered from his gambling addiction and self-destructive behavior. In a chance encounter, Max meets Ilir, a young asylum seeker from Albania whose father was once a member of the communist dictatorship’s secret service. An unlikely friendship grows between them as they go through various ups and downs in their respective love lives: Ilir’s Columbian girlfriend Blanca has left her country and survived a family tragedy related to corruption and civil war, while Alex, a young woman from a well-to-do Lugano family, is shattered by her passionate love for Max. The typical family problems of a middle class conditioned by stereotypes and Max’s inability to react drag the young man deeper into an abyss he finds it increasingly difficult to climb out of.
