Opération Turquoise
23 June 1994. French Special Forces enter Rwanda under a UN mandate for a recon mission prior to the arrival of the 2,500 men of Operation Turquoise. We follow these officers and soldiers during the first two weeks of their “humanitarian” mission, a mission all the more ambiguous since the French government long supported the authors of the genocide that claimed 800,000 lives. Should a soldier ask disturbing questions rather than blindly obey orders? This is what is at stake in this descent into a heart of darkness where courage, self-sacrifice and honor no longer protect anyone when confronted with destructive fury.
