In the Eskimo Inupiat language "oogruk" means oil. Black gold was discovered on Alaska 50 years ago and changed the locals' lives forever. Within a few years the oil industry turned the US's nothern coast into an extensive drilling and pipeline network. This industry having gained the support of the Bush family is trying to invade the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, which is a protected area because of its environmental importance. After 18 months of research and filming in 5 differents areas of the vast American State, Sotiris Danezis and Dimitris Gerardis' award winning documentary series reveals the effects oil industry has had on local life, the threat to the Arctic's vulnerable environment, the scandals and the corruption involving oil companies, senators and the White House.
