'Ndrangheta, une mafia d'affaires et de sang
Calabria, at the southernmost point of Italy. Behind the prosperous port of Gioa Tauro lies the town of Rizziconi, which made local headlines on July 13, 2000, when the city council was dissolved by decree by the Italian president because of its avowed links with a clan in the Calabrian mafia: "Ndrangheta", the Crea clan. A federal police commissioner was appointed, but anonymous letters continually flooded the anti-mafia prosecutor’s desk: letters about the despair of the people of Rizziconi, who continued to be terrorized by the head of the Crea clan, Teodoro, alias Toto. These letters led the prosecutor Roberto Pennisi to open an investigation. The aim: find proof of the clan’s criminal activities. Patiently and determinedly conducted by Inspector Nico Morroni, whom this film follows, the inquiry lasted seven years, from 2001 to 2007.
