Mantrayana
A commentary-less documentary about the life at the International Buddhist Meditation Center in Ladakh, India. The filmmaker participated in their daily routine of rituals, mantras, the washing, eating and shaving of the boy monks. The only sounds we hear are the mantras, the bells, the prayer flags and the wind. Seldom is a word addressed to the camera, and if it is, it remains untranslated yet fully understood. In this religious environment where the very young and the very old live side by side, television is watched and fun is made between the routines: during the shooting of a local video clip, a boy monks sings a line from the musical comedy Annie: Tomorrow, I love ya Tomorrow. You're always a day away." In the absence of commentary and translation, the film invites to see and hear the images and sounds of this magical place, somewhere in the Himalayas.
