Little Baghdad: Kyuzou suru Iraq Hinan-minLittle Baghdad
With sectarian conflicts escalating and a civil war unfolding in Iraq, a mass exodus of Iraqi citizens fleeing the violence is underway. The UNHCR puts the number of refugees at 2.2 million, most flocking to Syria. But the reality for these people searching for a safe haven is not favorable and many are forced to return to Iraq. In addition, militiamen pursued by U.S. troops are hiding in Damascus and also waiting for the chance to return. NHK takes its cameras into "Little Baghdad" in Damascus to capture the reality of Iraqi refugees and their influence on the volatile situation in the Middle East.
