Autumn 2005. Marcel Frydman, the 74-year-old chairman of Marrionnaud, gathered his things in what had been his office for ten years. The new management, a multinational firm to which he had sold his company, had just dismissed him. In the halls, in his office, staff wept for this paternalistic and authoritarian boss who had given debutants their chance. How did this man, who had started from nothing and had belonged to the Communist Party, to which he remained sympathetic, built the Marionnaud empire? And how did he lose it? Through his reminiscences, those of his collaborators and company archives, this film retrace Frydman’s adventure, evoking his strokes of genius, his bursts of flamboyance as well as the blindness that led to his downfall.
