Les Maeght, une histoire de famille
The major evolutions, perhaps even the course of History, often depends on outstanding, “providential” men and woman who lead uncommon lives. In the field of art history, Aimé Maeght is one such person.
The son of a railway worker, born in Hazebrouck in northern France in 1906, Maeght became the friend and dealer for most of the 20th century’s leading artists: Bonnard, Matisse, Miro, Chagall, Calder, Arp, Léger, Giacometti, Tapiès and many others. This is the story of the Maeghts, the story of a family that, for the first and probably the last time, opened the family archives to the public. This is, then, a guided tour by those who hold the keys to the temple. Anecdotes, jokes, home movies, sound recordings and rare photos, a treasury of archives, witty and moving commentaries punctuate, every phase in this extraordinary saga into the world of art in the 20th century.
