Les Caprices de Marianne VFrench's Caprices
This film retraces the course of Signe d'appartenance, Silver Lion d’Or for best short film at the 61st Venice Film Festival and Public Prize at Clermont-Ferrand. Despite this international recognition, Signe d'appartenance, a comic approach to the complex nature of double cultural identity as seen through eyes of a child, has still not be aired on hertzian French television. This rejection by TV programmers is the basis for this documentary. Seeking to understand the reason for this “block,” Kamel Chérif questions politicians, sociologists, journalists, psychoanalysts and artists about our history, our institutions and our republican values. This course echoes the debate that has obsessed and continues to obsess our society: ”affirmative action,” “the republican boost,” “the representation of visible minorities” and the “promotion of equal opportunity.”
