The night before the offensive, a soldier holes up in a dugout. Outside, the war rages with earth-shaking violence, and the man prepares for the inevitable. Tomorrow, he will go over the top with his comrades and plunge into the terrible iron rain of the battlefield. In this stop-motion animated film, the bodies of the soldiers become matter again, a mixture of earth, fire and iron, frozen in death for eternity.
