La Veuve joyeuseThe Merry Widow
After their version of Shostakovich's Moscow, Cheryomushki we find Jérôme Deschamps and Macha Makeïeff back at the Lyon Opera with The Merry Widow.
Jérôme Deschamps' interpretation of the Franz Lehár work rejects all the "conventions of a worthless operetta". Opting for a more finely honed rendering of the main characters – the two lovers who have raised walls to protect themselves from love – it gives greater breadth and depth to the work. Combining a whirlwind of dazzling, nostalgic songs with a brilliant cast – Véronique Gens, Magali Léger and François Leroux – Macha Makeieff's talented direction makes the show an absolute delight. Paris is a feast!
