Il Capo dei capi
Il Capo dei capi follows Totò Riina’s difficult childhood and his bloody rise to the top of the Cosa Nostra. His story begins with a devastating episode: while still a teenager, the future capo looked powerlessly on as his father and brother are killed by a bomb. He becomes the head of his family and endures a period of grinding poverty; he joins Corleone’s criminal elements who refer him to one of the bosses: Luciano Liggio. In those years, a group of “apostoles” is formed, among whom are Bernardo Provenzano and Calogero Bagarella, who will stand by him during his long rise. This group at first take over the Mafia dominating Corleone, then expand its power to Palermo and the heart of the Cosa Nostra. Among the Corleone group is a young man, Biagio, who rebels against Riina. Biagio becomes a policeman, taking on the mission to topple his former friend. The story, which also includes such personalities as Giovanni Falcone, ends with Riina’s arrest.
