Hunger auf Leben
In the GDR, in the late 50s. Brigitte Reimann is a young author full of hope and enthusiasm. She believes in the future of socialism and in her country. Invited to attend a meeting of official writers, she has an affair with her publisher. When she gets home, she must face her husband’s jealousy. He strikes her and in a fit of rage, attacks some police. He ends up in prison. Meanwhile, Brigitte, pregnant, has a miscarriage. When Günter comes home, she realizes it is time to leave him. She has met Daniel, another writer. She moves in with him in a new apartment block in the workers’ town of Hoyerswerda.
