HotacchokeLeave 'Em Alone
29-year-old Ryo Kudo, who had committed every kind of wrongdoing and reformed himself in a prison cell, opened a private school in Tagawa, Fukuoka Pref. in February 2006. Not a school for learning but a place for delinquents and socially marginalized teens. In July 2006, 13-year-old Mayu arrived. She’d been a truant and a fly-by-nighter. Mayu often used profanities and couldn’t socialize. She huddled alone in a room corner, a cell phone in her hand.
Kudo never makes her study or work. He patiently watches her and waits until she finds motivation. He knows this "Leave 'em alone” (Hotacchoke) attitude is the only way. Mayu gradually greets others and started going to school. But suddenly her behavior grows eccentric and she skips school. Why do these kids, rebelling against parents, teachers and police, listen to Kudo? The program shows us the reason from their daily lives.
