Hitchcock et la nouvelle vague

Claude Chabrol, Jacques Rivette, Éric Rohmer and François Truffaut became filmmakers after being enthusiastic admirers of Alfred Hitchcock. With them today, we would like to know why and how their approach to the British master of Hollywood modified the very notion of cinema auteur and nourished their own rise as directors in the 50s. How was this approach a slap in the face to film establishment then. And in the light of their experience today, what remains relevant in what they advocated back then. Claude Chabrol, Jacques Rivette and Éric Rohmer accepted to answer our questions. Truffaut left behind tens of hours of sound recordings with Hitchcock, which we have used. Luc Moullet and Charles Bitsch, who were also active partisans of Hitchcock, give us their point of view and gauge the historical impact.
