Two of her kids are deaf and mute and this adds salt to the injury. The crate with its wooden bars symbolizes her economic as well as her social condition. Nevertheless she is made of steel. She tries consistently to overcome the obstacles; she sends her kids to school and attempts to get them out of this hard profession. She looks for a better future for her kids in spite of the limited potentialities she is permitted. N'amat yearns for setting herself and her kids free from the crate that she is caged in. Although she does not succeed, she does not stop. She sees that not only her is imprisoned within the crate, every man is imprisoned within a crate of some sort.
