The genesis of Eldorado (Sonntags Abschied). The film illuminates the resonances between music and movement to record the jolts, confrontations but also the exchanges, the extension of sound in gesture, the abstract echoes. Olivier Assayas, for whom the direction of actors is a choreography of camera and players, was beguiled by the world of Angelin Preljocaj and by the challenge the choreographer put to him. In lifting the veil on the secrets of the work’s gestation, the filmmaker’s eye sought out the moments of joy and anxiety in this ambitious dance piece. The film was shot during rehearsals in order to be closest to the dancers and choreographer.
