El Misrawiya

Masraweya, is a 5-part series rendering a significant period of Egyptian history and exploring economic, political and social aspects of the post Word War I period (1919-1923) and how far they could impact the Egyptian society. Part I episodes end with the issuance of the first Egyptian constitution. Masraweya means Egyptians/Egyptian female, while at the same time, it is the nickname of the heroine Norai. Masraweya plot takes place in Bashnin, a northern Egyptian village, where mayorship conflicts emerge between two families, symbolic of all Egypt. The heroes are Mayor Fat-hallah, the central character of the plot, as well as his latest wife Norai. The plot continues subsequently, introducing another historical period starting from 1923.
