When an old sailor named Bill Bones takes up quarters at the inn run by Jim Hawkins and his mother, the youngster hasn't the chance to ask the old man what he is waiting for as he watches the sea day after day – Bill Bones dies suddenly. In his belongings, Jim finds Captain Flint's legendary treasure map. By the time the young and homely Sheila turns up at the inn, where she is to meet someone, Jim has already set off on a treasure hunt. Sailing on the ship of the peg-legged seaman Long John Silver, Jim quickly learns that the crew is made up of a band of cuthroat pirates and that the young cabin boy is in fact a girl: Sheila who is none other than Captain Flint's daughter, who was to be given the map by Bill Bones. Winning her trust, Jim decides to help her claim her inheritance, but the young girl's true identity is revealed and both young people become the prisoners of Long John Silver, who also covets the treasure.
